New Highly Energy Efficient Homes For Welshpool

Locally based Mid-Wales Housing Association is pleased that the new affordable homes currently under construction on Brook Street in Welshpool are progressing well. The completed development will be known as Croft Court and is expected to be available for occupation by the end of the year.

When complete, the striking scheme will provide 17 one- and two-bedroom apartments over four floors, three of which will be fully wheelchair adapted. All will be available to rent. The apartments are designed to be the most energy efficient that Mid-Wales Housing has ever developed, with the aim of ensuring that the costs of heating and lighting will be kept to the absolute minimum. This is being achieved by building to a "PassivHaus" standard and harnessing solar power for the additional benefit of all residents.

The Powys based development contractor, Mid-Wales Property Ltd, is committed to a local employment policy and is working to maintain a strong local supply chain, as a key part of the development programme.

The scheme has been developed with the assistance of £1.9 million funding from the Welsh Government's Innovative Housing Programme, where the emphasis is on the development of innovative and highly energy efficient construction to reduce energy costs. Mid-Wales Housing is pleased to work with the Welsh Government in such a positive way.

Sian Howells, Director of New Business at Mid-Wales Housing said: "The Innovative Housing Programme is a very positive and welcome initiative by the Welsh Government. It allows more development of interesting and high quality homes in a shortened time frame, and here at Mid-Wales Housing we are keen to be at the forefront of new ideas and to provide more high quality affordable homes"
