Exciting New Affordable Housing Development In Welshpool Progressing Well

Locally based Mid-Wales Housing Association was pleased to welcome the first residents into their new homes at Clos Gungrog and Bron Gungrog in Welshpool recently with the remaining properties anticipated to be complete by December.

The completed development of 54 affordable homes of 2, 3 and 4 bedroomed properties, including 9 two bedroomed bungalows is located close to the Flash Leisure Centre and Welshpool High School in an attractive position between the canal and open countryside.

14 of the homes marketed by Morris Marshall and Poole of Welshpool will be available to buy under the Welsh Government's 'Rent to Own' programme. This is specifically aimed at people who would like to buy their own home but have struggled to save enough to do so by helping them to take the first step onto the property ownership ladder.

Eluned Morgan AM who visited the development site in 2019 said: "It was fantastic to visit the development and to see first-hand the great work being done here by Mid-Wales Housing Association and Pickstock Homes Ltd. For many young people, the idea of home ownership has seemed an almost impossible challenge. The Welsh Government knows how tough it can be and is committed to giving support where it matters.

It was great to see that 14 of the 54 properties on the Clos Gungrog and Bron Gungrog project being built under our Rent to Own Programme - an initiative designed to support those who can afford to buy, but are struggling to secure a deposit.

I'm proud that we're leading the way in developing new co-operative and mutual solutions to housing needs, making more and more properties available for rent and part-ownership across both urban and rural parts of Wales, through a wide range of innovative support programmes."

The homes are being developed with Pickstock Homes Ltd., a trusted development partner, and with significant funding assistance from the Welsh Government. All properties will have private gardens and are built to the most modern standards of thermal and energy performance. Mr. Nick Scott from Pickstock Homes Ltd said: "Pickstock Homes has enjoyed working in close partnership with Mid-Wales Housing Association to assist in the delivery of this exciting new residential scheme serving the local community in Welshpool".

Mid-Wales Housing is once again proud to have promoted local employment and opportunities through the procurement of this scheme. The construction contract required the contractor to employ 80% local labour and provided training placements for building trade apprentices. Significant elements of the houses, such as timber frames and many of the building materials have been supplied by local companies.

Construction work is progressing well on the remaining properties, Mid-Wales Housing were delighted to welcome residents into the first phase of new homes who complemented them on the size and space of the homes including the kitchen, bedrooms, shower room and gardens.
