Launch Of Care & Repair In Powys Healthy Home Service

Care & Repair in Powys was delighted to welcome Kirsty Williams AM to launch its Healthy Home Service at Bronllys Hospital on 18th November, 2016. Kirsty Williams was joined by representatives of Care & Repair in Powys, Care & Repair Cymru, Powys Teaching Health Board, Powys County Council, PAVO and the Welsh Ambulance Service.

The Healthy Home Service is a home based visiting service available to anybody living in Powys over 60 years of age to assess and advise on safety at home, aimed at preventing falls, trips and slips.

During the event, presentations were given by Chris Jones, Chief Executive of Care & Repair Cymru and Debbie Brooks,Technical Caseworker at Care & Repair in Powys, highlighting the importance of the service that Care & Repair in Powys provides.

Kirsty Williams said: "I was pleased to have the opportunity to help launch the Healthy Home Service in Bronllys Hospital, which will be delivered by Care & Repair in Powys".

"The service is aimed at keeping older people living safely and independently in their homes. Preventing falls, trips and slips can reduce the pressure on hospitals, which is particularly important at this time of year. Simple adaptations, such as a handrail, can often make a huge difference".

"The service is supported by Powys County Council, Powys Teaching Health Board, and the Welsh Government through the Intermediate Care Fund. If a safer home would benefit you, or anyone you know, I would encourage you to get in touch with Care & Repair in Powys and ask for the Healthy Home Service ".

Julie Metcalf, Chair of Care & Repair in Powys who presided ovr the event said: "This is an important initiative which will ensure older people across the county remain safe and secure in their own homes which can also help avoid hospital admission or enable safe discharge from hospital or short term care".

Anna Orton, newly appointed Director of Care & Repair in Powys said: "We were delighted that representatives from a number of organisations attended the launch event, supporting this invaluable service. By working in partnership with other organisations in the promotion of this service we are confident that it will improve the lives of many older people across the county".
